PAS125:2007
As you will all know this new specification was introduced early 2007, however, there is still confusion on who can certificate this specification other than B.S.I with the Kitemark.
I know of one industry certification body that are in dialog with United Kingdom Accreditation Services (U.K.A.S) and are still awaiting clarification on this matter.
The insurance companies have said that they are willing to back this specification; however there has as yet been no firm commitment from them.
I visited the ATS show at the Birmingham N.E.C. last week and was amazed at the lack of knowledge with the majority of suppliers. I was even more surprised at some exhibitors jumping on the band wagon and advising companies that PAS125 demands that you need to do this and that, resulting in Bodyshops wasting money on things they do not need to do or undertake.
I would advise all Bodyshops to acquire a copy of this specification and understand what is truly required. This can be purchased by following this link: http://www.bsi-global.com/en/Standards-and-Publications/Industry-Sectors/Transport/more-products/pas125/
I would also advise Bodyshops not to jump to quickly to sign up for this specification or a pre-audit until the dust settles and a justified agreement has been reached by all parties.
Corporate Audit Solutions Limited was involved in the first independent Bodyshop achieving the Kitemark registration in early January 2007. Both the Bodyshop and ourselves found this difficult to achieve and required a massive amount of work, however it has proved worthwhile for both parties.
We believe that this specification can help the industry, however, it is early days and for all this confusion we do not want to see it die a death and just end up like the old BS5750 did.
